Humble pie, humble pie with a side of crow is what I’ll be having for dinner, deservedly so.
I wrote about how there was no way Manchester City could lose the FA Cup final earlier this week and I was wrong.
I said there was no way Manchester United could win the FA Cup and I was wrong.
I talked about the competition losing its romance because clubs with massive squads and budgets simply squashed smaller sides, I was wrong there as well.
Damn I’m happy about that!
Normally I don’t go with the odds.
Normally I go full Han Solo (“never tell me the odds”) and trust my gut … this time I WAS WRONG, I believed the hype, I believed the numbers.
Nobody, not even the biggest United fans thought they had a chance against City’s billions, there amazing squad, their skill, their desire to win, nobody …
Guess someone forgot to tell the Red Devils players because they were amazing at Wembly.
They tackled and chased and, at the end of the day, took home the trophy.
They dug deep and found that extra something that you need to stop the Citizens and every member of the squad should be proud of that medal that hangs around their necks tonight.
I missed the first half, golf at Glendower was fun, as always (love that course) but sitting with Mike and Kyleigh (two Man U suck - sorry, I’m working on that - Manchester United fans) for the second half was great.
I was sucked into the game, feeling every moment, celebrating every time a save, a tackle, a block, a run was made.
So was everyone else sitting around having a cold one after a day on the course.
This is the FA Cup I grew up watching.
Exciting, thrilling, nerve wracking, even as a neutral.
The romance is back, the FA Cup is back, the only fa cup was mine.
