Uefa introduces 'The Substitutes' for Euro 2024, a dynamic educational platform with six lessons spanning sports, mathematics and geography, music, languages, science and technology and creative art
Designed for schools, clubs and communities, the programme leverages German superstar Jamal Musiala, tournament mascot Albärt and Euro 2024 excitement to enrich education and encourage children to #MakeMoves.
With Jamal and Albärt serving as substitute teachers for the lessons the initiative aims to inspire the millions of young people across Europe to embrace getting active and to value the physical, mental and social health benefits of regular exercise and movement.
Uefa Marketing Director, Guy-Laurent Epstein, emphasized the importance of the mascot in bringing the campaign to life: "Albärt is not just a mascot; he is a beacon of motivation for kids to get active and develop a love for football and its values. Partnering with Musiala, who himself is an exemplary figure in promoting health and perseverance through sport, enriches this programme immensely."
Musiala, four-time Bundesliga winner and Uefa Champions League winner, expressed his enthusiasm about his role: "It’s an honour to contribute to such a significant cause. 'The Substitutes' is more than just a school programme; it's a movement aimed at showing kids the joy and benefits of staying active, hoping to ignite a lifelong passion for sports among their peers.”
The programme aligns closely with the mission of Musiala's foundation, Team Musiala. Dedicated to transforming the lives of disadvantaged children, Team Musiala drives impactful initiatives, including the Jamal Musiala Cup and various after-school programmes. These efforts position Musiala as a prominent advocate for empowering youth through engaging activities that promote positive development and well-being.
The programme extends beyond physical education to incorporate themes like sustainability and technology within the context of Euro 2024. For example, children will learn about sustainable travel methods between stadiums and explore advancements like motion-capture technology.
