Tuskers eager to start 2025 with a bang

The ACDC Express Tuskers head to Polokwane to face Limpopo in the first round of the CSA 4-Day Series in 2025 this week eyeing a fast start to the new year.

The Tuskers put together two strong performances in the competition before losing their final match of 2024. Despite that result they are still second on the table heading into the new year.

Speaking ahead of their match starting on Thursday, Tuskers head coach Ahmed Amla says the team are well rested and ready to tackle the rest of the red ball campaign.

"The guys had a good break and are excited to be back in action again," Amla said. "The mood is positive and we are looking forward to getting back to playing decent cricket again."

The Tuskers will be out to gain promotion back to Division One at the end of the season and a strong 4-Day campaign will be important for them. Heading into the last three matches of the round robin phase Amla feels there is room for improvement.

"I think that we can be better in our overall consistency with the ball and although we have been batting nicely, we could improve on the lower order contributions."

The trip to Polokwane will see the Tuskers face an Impalas side that are currently fifth on the table with a win, a loss and a draw from their three matches so far.

That win came in round one when they beat the Eastern Storm by 88 runs. That win was followed by a draw and a loss to finish the year.

Amla has been satisfied with his team's efforts so far this tournament. He's highlighted the areas that they can improve, however he is mindful that it's important to appreciate good cricket.

"It's been nice to see the progress the team have made and the manner in which they have been approaching each game.

"We have had a good 11 out of 12 days so far, so we just have to keep pushing to improve," he added.

Amla has added seam bowler Zeden Mahomed to his squad and the 21-year-old could be in line for a Tuskers debut in Polokwane.
