SA U19 Women win series opener

The South Africa Under-19 Women delivered an impressive performance to secure a 27-run victory against the USA U19 Women in the first match of their three-match T20 series.

The series, which is part of the team’s preparation for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, is being held at Bridge House High School in Franschoek.

Batting first, SA U19 Women posted a competitive total, thanks to a solid contribution from Simoné Lourens, who top-scored with 39 runs.

She received valuable support from Kayla Reyneke (25) and Jemma Botha (22), ensuring the hosts had a defendable score of 131/7.

Reyneke continued to shine with the ball, delivering an outstanding spell of 3/10 in just under four overs. Fay Cowling provided excellent support, claiming two crucial wickets as the SA bowlers worked together to dismiss the USA for 104, sealing the win for the home side.

The teams will face off in the second match of the series on Tuesday, with Junior Proteas aiming to build on their strong start.
