Ntuli steps into national men’s coaching job

Sihle Ntuli has been named the new coach of the South African men’s hockey team, bringing a wealth of experience, vision and leadership to the role.

Ntuli is former head coach of the SA Under-21 men’s team and he has been an integral part of the senior team’s journey, serving on the coaching staff for both the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

As head coach, Ntuli will guide the team through a challenging calendar year, with the Nations Cup and the African Cup of Nations on the horizon. The latter is of particular significance, as it serves as a qualifier for the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup, a key milestone for the team’s ambitions.

In addition to Ntuli’s appointment, South African Hockey announced announce the support staff for the national men’s team.

Speaking on his appointment, Ntuli said: “It is an incredible honor to lead the South African men’s hockey team. I have been privileged to work with some of the best players and coaches in the world and I am excited to build on the progress we’ve made. Our focus will be on delivering strong performances in the Nations Cup and securing our spot at the World Cup through the African Cup of Nations. The journey ahead is demanding but I am confident in the talent, resilience and passion of this team.”

SA Hockey Interim CEO Shaun Baaitjies said: “Sihle’s appointment reflects our commitment to developing world-class coaches from within our hockey community. His understanding of the game, dedication to excellence and deep connection to the team make him the ideal leader as we navigate this pivotal period. We are confident that under his guidance, the team will continue to inspire and achieve on the global stage.”

The SA men’s hockey team support staff is: Martin Van Staden (team manager), Devon Van der Merwe (assistant coach), Devin Stanton (assistant coach), Guy Elliott (assistant coach), Keagan Pearce (performance analyst), Myles Usher (strength and conditioning coach), Greshne Davids (physiotherapist).
