Boland and South Western Districts remained as the only unbeaten sides at the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Rural Week after both secured victories in the first set of Twenty20 matches played in Oudtshoorn on Saturday.
Thandano Majebe, Lo-Wayden Siegelaar and Basil George were all brilliant with the ball – the trio sharing all 10 wickets between them – to help Boland claim a mammoth 117-run win over Eastern Province Midlands, with bowlers Anoxolo Khitshini and Corne Kennedy impressing in SWD’s win over Iinyathi Country.
Iinyathi Villagers and Iinyathi Aloes were also triumphant in the latest set of games, though no-one was impressive as the Bolanders.
Batting first against Midlands, they were bowled out for 145. Benjamin September (5/25) played a key role with the ball, though his performance was masked by the Majebe-Siegelaar-George trio after they responded to bowl out EP for only 28.
Majebe claimed a fine 4/8, Siegelaar took 3/3 and George 3/4 to secure a huge win.
SWD, meanwhile, won by 20 runs against Country. The home side batted first and posted 127/7. Berthal September (42) top-scored, before being outdone by Sinothando Adonis (55).
However, Khitshini (3/14), Kennedy (3/18) and Jean Heunis (2/4) claimed eight wickets between them to bowl out their opponents for 107.
Elsewhere, Lethabo Gulwa was the star batter of the day, recording 86 for Aloes, who chased down a 139-target set for them by EP Grahamstown with five balls to spare.
Finally, Yamkela Olifant lead the way for Villagers with the bat by hitting 61 against Kei as 147 all out played 52 all out.
Mduduzi Dlabantu (3/15) and Camagu Mbangi (2/9) were then the best of the bowlers helping Villagers to a 95-run win.
