Wednesday night will see the top-of-the-log CSA T20 Challenge clash between the Lions and the Warriors at the DP World Wanderers Stadium.
The Lions are well-placed in second position on the log despite the shock rain-affected loss to the Tuskers in the weekend’s action.
The DP World Lions’ last two matches at the DP World Wanderers Stadium have been affected by the weather and have seen the Pride not being able to produce their best … yet. There was the one-run win over Western Province in a Super Over, having been cruising to the target before a rain interruption. The start of the match against the Tuskers was delayed by showers after the toss, creating conditions that seam bowlers only dream of having.
But the Lions are confident that they have the beating of any side in a full 20-over contest, even the in-form Dafabet Warriors.
Ryan Rickelton, having set alight the SA20, has been the Pride’s star performer with the bat, averaging 41.25 with a strike-rate of 147.32, while he has international-class back-up in Wiaan Mulder, Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma and Reeza Hendricks.
Kagiso Rabada and Kwena Maphaka may be away representing the #PrideOfJozi on the IPL stage but the ever-reliable left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin will be there to lead the attack, while seamer Codi Yusuf has shown he is a fast-rising talent.
Having suffered a rare defeat, there is no doubt the Lions will be ‘roaring’ to bounce back and produce a dazzling all-round performance to solidify our place in the top two of the CSA T20 Challenge.
Meanwhile, a hearty congratulations to ‘Caught in 20K’ competition winner Brandon van der Berg, who took a clean one-handed catch at the DP World Lions v Tuskers game on Saturday. He walked away with a cool R20 000.
Van der Berg says the feeling is still surreal.
“I am feeling ecstatic about the whole situation and am so grateful that I went to the game with my brother and his mates … despite not originally planning on going! I think I will save half of the money and use the other half for a deposit on a car. I was seated in the memorial stand towards the bottom but close to the players' tunnel. I will definitely attend more games at the DP World Wanderers Stadium (and probably sit in the same spot) – not just because I want to win again but because I am totally in love with the game. Thank you Lions Cricket for the prize!”
Chief Financial Officer Brecht Mohonathan was at the game to witness the magic moment first hand.
“It was extremely exciting to witness one of our Lions’ Pride fans take the spectacular one-handed catch and he is now R20 000 richer! It’s a true testament of skills not only displayed on the field, but off the field from our loyal fans. We encourage all fans to keep attending the remaining Lions games at the iconic DP World Wanderers Stadium, not only to experience the electric atmosphere and phenomenal cricket but to also stand a chance to win R20 000 of their own.”
Match day tickets are available at TicketPro starting at R50 for adults. To check up on the T&C’s, please visit lionscricket.co.za or @lionscricket on social media.
