The United Rugby Championship is delighted to announce the return of Kids Round, which is part of the league’s ambition to encourage inclusion in our sport.
As part of the URC’s Take on Tomorrow social purpose strategy, Kids Round follows on from the previous success of Unity and Origin themed rounds which have celebrated diversity, families and grassroots communities.
In Round 16 (April 25 & 26) the URC will activate ‘Kids Round’ with the overall goal of championing the next generation of sports fans, providing the opportunity for involvement across the match day participating in key roles.
Across Round 16, the URC will adopt Kids Round branding on its digital channels and LED boards in stadiums. Kids will have the opportunity to ‘takeover’ match day with a number of broadcast roles being made available for the kids to step up for, including Match Manager, Player of the Match interview and mini-Referee for the coin toss. You are also likely to see young fans taking over the roles of ground staff, kit managers and PA announcers.

The URC provides these opportunities to place a spotlight on how our clubs engage with the next generation of fans and that match days are the ultimate family friendly day out.
Many clubs are already looking at unique and bespoke ways to celebrate and engage the next generation of fans and the URC is hugely excited about the return of the kids takeover round.
Speaking about Kids Round, Martin Anayi, United Rugby Championship, CEO, said: “Our Kids Round holds special meaning for me. As a father of young boys, I understand just how important it is to inspire a love for sport from an early age. Research shows that children ideally develop an interest in sport by the age of eight and we want to ensure our youngest fans are excited to return week after week to watch their heroes in action.
"Kids Round is all about showcasing our sport in a way that resonates with young audiences. While it’s a league-wide celebration, we know many of our clubs are going the extra mile to create match day experiences that are welcoming and memorable for families throughout the season.
"Kids Round is always full of energy and fun - I can’t wait to see the kids stepping into their game day roles. We’re not just celebrating Kids Round, we’re building the future of our fan base, and that’s something truly special.”
