In Rassie we trust

The first Springbok team announcement was always going to rub some people the wrong way.

Provincial bias, living in the past, lack of forward thinking and plain stupidity have all reared their ugly heads today after Rassie Erasmus named his match day 23 to take on Wales on Saturday.

We live in a country where trust is hard to come by, whether it's someone buying you a drink, offering you a lift or in the highest spots in government, South Africans don't trust anymore, how could we?

But there is one man we can back 100%, one man who always has the best interests of SA at the forefront of his mind, Rassie Erasmus.

The Bok coach understands the Rainbow Nation, he wants nothing but the best for us and he has earned our trust so when he picks Jordan Hendrikse at flyhalf for the clash at Twickenham, he has a plan.

Rassie has been there, won that (twice) and got the T-shirt.

His team is full of exciting players that will put Wales to the sword, he has backed his men to deliver and they always do for him and the country.

Ox Nche is a no-brainer, what a player.

Malcolm Marx starting makes perfect sense because he's been out of rugby since the World Cup last year so let him start, empty the tank and let Bongi Mbonambi come on whenever he's needed to finish the game, even if that's after only 20 minutes.

Vincent Koch starts his 50th Test for the Boks on Saturday, something Erasmus and Jacques Neinaber try to do for players hitting milestones.

Is Koch better off the bench that Frans Malherbe? Yes. Is Malherbe a better starter than Koch? Yes. But these big men know what they have to do and will do it.

Image being the Welsh No 1, Gareth Thomas, and seeing Koch leave the field only to be replaced by the best No 3 in the business ...

Anyone with issues about Eben Etzebeth and Franco Mostert locking the scrum should find a new sport, because damn!

Kwagga Smith gets a chance from the start in the No 6 jersey after being so good off the bench for the men in Green and Gold, which is awesome.

Pieter-Steph du Toit, the machine, the monster, the best of the best, leads the team.

He won't be loud, he won't shout, he might not even talk, all he'll do is lead from the front, tackling anything in red from the first whistle to the last.

A captain screaming at you for not doing your job sucks but a little look of disappointment from the Malmesbury Missile would be the worst thing ever.

Evan Roos has matured into the fantastic rugby player we all hoped he would be.

There has never been any doubt about his ability, passion or drive, it was his tendency to give away penalties that was a concern.

At United Rugby Championship level you can get away with that but not at Test level and he has shown this URC season that he gets it and it's great for SA rugby.

Cameron Hanekom is not available this weekend but has been exceptional at No 8 for the Vodacom Bulls this season and is a star of the future but even in his Player of the Match performance against Leinster in the URC semi-finals he was pinged by the ref (but let's not talk about him).

Hanekom needs to grow up a little, same as Roos needed to, before being ready to take the step up to the big time.

Faf de Klerk will be Faf de Klerk, he'll kick too much for some people and run too much for others but you know you are going to get 110% from the little terrier at scrumhalf.

Hendrikse is an interesting selection, he's the second choice No 10 at the Emirates Lions behind Sanele Nohamba (who was announced as the Vodacom URC Player of the Season before the Bok team was made public) and Manie Libbok has won a World Cup, while Siya Masuku has been a revelation at the Hollywoodbets Sharks.

But in Rassie we trust, Hendrikse is the flyhalf we've been shouting out for, for years.

Has a massive boot, runs like the wind, has flair to burn and doesn't take a back step on defence.

He's the man we need, he simply needs a chance to show it.

Makazole Mapimpi is back!

This is the best news ever, this man has a special place in my heart for all he's done to reach the top and after his injury in the World Cup last year I feared we may never see him in the Springbok colours again.

He and Edwill van der Merwe are deadly finishers, amazing under the high ball and fast as f...!

Wales won't want to give them any space, not that they need much anyway.

Van der Merwe has been in spectacular form for the Lions since he moved up from Cape Town and fully deserves his spot on the wing.

Damian de Allende is a better starter than an impact player but having his experience coming off the bench with the man mountain Andre Esterhuizen starting makes me smile.

I almost feel for the Welsh, almost ...

Jesse Kreil has never gotten the love he deserves for the work he puts in for the Springboks and to find out that he's the vice-captain this weekend is great news.

His efforts in the World Cup proved that he is world class and he will prove it again in London.

Aphelele Fassi has really come into his own this year.

In a struggling Sharks side he was the shining light for most of the season and he'll be full of running on Saturday.

Ntuthuko Mchunu, Salmaan Moerat, Ben-Jason Dixon, Grant Williams and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu will all be champing at the bit to make an impact off the bench making this 23 one of the most exciting I've seen in a long time with the mixture of exuberant youth and grizzled veterans mixed perfectly.

In Rassie we trust.
