How Team SA fared on Thursday

Team SA were involved in four sports at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Thursday. Ashleigh Buhai stayed in contention in the women’s golf https://www.vftt.co.za/post/buhai-hangs-tough-in-tricky-conditions, while Team SA’s 4x100m men have set themselves as strong medal candidates when they finished second to the USA in a season’s best 37.94. It was also the second fastest qualifying time.

Julia Vincent produced a fine effort of 297.30 points from her five dives in the 3m springboard semi-finals, the same she had recorded at the world championships last year when placing 10th. She qualified for the Olympic final here in sixth position.

The United States (27 golds) lead China (also 25 golds), Australia (18), France (13) and Great Britain in the medal standings. Team SA are 37th with one gold (Tatjana Smith), one silver (Smith) and two bronzes (men’s Sevens rugby and Alan Hatherly).


ATHLETICS

Women’s shot put qualification, Group A: Mine de Klerk finished 16th in her group with a heave of 15.63m and didn't progress to the final

Women’s 100m hurdles, repechage: Marione Fourie won her heat in 12.79 and progressed to the semi-finals

Men’s 4x100m relay, heats: Team SA booked a place in the final when they finished second to the USA in a season’s best 37.94. It was also the second fastest qualifying time.


DIVING

SPORT CLIMBING

Women’s boulder & Lead, semi-final Lead: Lauren Mukheiber. Boulder points 0.0 Lead points 4.1. She finished 20th overall and was eliminated.
