As the official sponsor of the Telkom Netball League (TNL), Telkom continues to reaffirm its commitment to advancing netball in South Africa by highlighting the remarkable journey of Nthabiseng Hottie, a former TNL player who has risen through the ranks to become the head coach of the Northern Cape Diamonds. Her story exemplifies Telkom's enduring support for the league, which has been a cornerstone for nurturing talent and fostering sports development in the country.

Nthabiseng Hottie, a name synonymous with resilience and passion, embodies the spirit of the TNL. Hottie, who retired from professional play in 2021, transitioned into coaching in 2022, initially serving as an assistant coach for the Northern Cape Diamonds. Her dedication and strategic acumen quickly became evident, leading to her appointment as the head coach in 2023.

"Coaching isn’t easy, especially when you have a strong desire to be out on the court. My assistant coach often has to remind me that my role has changed," Hottie reflected. Despite the challenges, her leadership has been transformative. Under her guidance, the Northern Cape Diamonds achieved a historic fourth-place finish in the 2023 season, their best performance to date.

The TNL, South Africa's premier netball tournament, has been instrumental in Hottie's development. Since its inception in 2014, the TNL has provided a critical platform for players to display their skills, be scouted, and ascend to national and international prominence. Hottie's journey from a player in the league to a coach underscores the league’s role in shaping the careers of countless athletes.

Through Telkom's sponsorship, the TNL underscores its commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and nurturing emerging talent. The league's structure and competitive environment have been pivotal in developing players who have gone on to represent South Africa at the highest levels, including the national team, the SPAR Proteas.

Hottie's transition from player to coach has not only been a personal achievement but also a source of inspiration for young players. "As a player, your primary focus is on improving yourself and contributing to the team. As a coach, you aim to elevate the entire team. Coaching has allowed me to transfer my skills and knowledge to younger players, hoping to inspire them to be better," Hottie shared.

Her story is a testament to the profound impact of the Telkom Netball League in shaping future leaders within the sport. The league’s emphasis on comprehensive development – from playing to coaching – ensures that the sport continues to thrive, even as seasoned players retire, and new talent emerges.

Looking ahead to the 2027 Netball World Cup, Telkom remains steadfast in its mission to advance netball. The absence of familiar stars such as Bongi Msomi and Phumza Maweni has highlighted the importance of continually nurturing new talent. The Telkom Netball League is at the forefront of this mission, consistently unearthing and developing players who contribute significantly to the sport.

Hottie's journey is a shining example of what is possible through dedication, support and the right opportunities. As the 2024 Telkom Netball League unfolds, Telkom, alongside netball enthusiasts across South Africa, eagerly anticipates witnessing new stars rise, inspired by the journey of those like Hottie.

Together, Telkom and the Telkom Netball League will continue to champion the growth and success of netball, inspiring generations to come.

The final leg of TNL runs from Friday to Wednesday with matches being played at Ellis Park Indoor Arena. All matches will be broadcast on SuperSport. Tickets will be sold at the venue.
