Half centuries by Hanu Viljoen and Jason Smith ensured the One-Day Cup play-off race will go down to the wire after they overcame the Knights by five wickets in Durban on Friday night.

All-rounder Smith top-scored with 71 off 96 balls (6x4, 1x6) whilst rookie Viljoen hit an unbeaten 64 off 92 balls (6x4, 1x6) as the hosts chased down 196 with just over three overs to spare.

It was their bowlers who earlier impressed at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead where Tristan Luus took 3/52. He was supported well by Prenelan Subrayen (2/26), Eathan Bosch (2/32) and Andile Simelane (2/35).

The Knights batted first after winning the toss but they were bowled out in their allotted overs.

Tiaan van Vuuren top-scored with 54 off 76 balls (5x4, 1x6) but he lacked support in what was a poor effort with the bat.

The Dolphins did run into some early trouble at 12/2 and then 60/4 but the Smith-Viljoen fifth-wicket stand yielded a result-defining 103 as the home side won with 22 balls remaining.

The Durban outfit remained fifth on the table but now with 15 points, one behind their Friday opponents, the Momentum Multiply Titans and Dafabet Warriors.

Goldrush Boland have already secured their play-off spot on an unassailable 21 points.
