Tazmin Brits showcased her batting prowess this weekend, steering the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers to a resounding victory against Hollywoodbets Dolphins as the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Professional Women’s Domestic League continued in Oudtshoorn.
Opting to bat first in the CSA 1-Day Cup encounter on Saturday, the Badgers laid a solid foundation when Brits unleashed a batting masterclass, amassing 126 runs off 112 deliveries. Her innings, studded with 14 boundaries and four maximums, propelled the hosts to a formidable total of 226/8 in their allotted 50 overs.
With the Proteas Women in action in the league, the competition amongst the domestic teams has intensified.
This was evident in Brits’ dismissal, claimed by her Proteas teammate Nonkululeko Mlaba, who notched an impressive five-wicket haul, with figures of 5/24 in her 10 overs.
In their chase, Dolphins fought boldly but fell nine runs short, bowled out for 217 runs with four balls remaining.
The Badgers' victory was sealed by a spirited bowling effort, led by Tabitha la Grange’s three-wicket haul (3/36), supported by Chantelle van Schoor and Micaela Andrews, who bagged two wickets each. Khayakazi Mathe's single scalp and two crucial runouts further dented the Dolphins' chase.
In the CSA T20 Challenge on Sunday, the Dolphins opted to bat first, setting a target of 104 runs, thanks to Zintle Mali’s unbeaten 41 off 33 deliveries.
Brits once again proved her mettle with the bat, delivering an unbeaten 62* off 46 deliveries. The hosts chased down the target in just under 16 overs, clinching a convincing seven-wicket victory.
In the bowling defence, Jade de Figueiredo, Mlaba and Nosihle Ngubane made crucial contributions, each claiming a wicket to dismiss Tabitha la Grange, Mieke de Ridder, and Micaela Andrews, respectively.
In Division 2 action, Eastern Province showcased dominance with a commanding 207-run CSA 1-Day Cup victory over Boland in Gqeberha.
After setting a target of 263 runs with half centuries from Jana Nell (88), and Amber Botha (53), Vuyolwethu Bonya wreaked havoc with the ball, registering remarkable figures of 5/9 to restrict Boland to a mere 55 runs.
The visitors, however, redeemed themselves in the CSA T20 Challenge, cruising to a comfortable seven-wicket win on Sunday.
This weekend's cricketing action underscored the depth of talent and the fierce competition within the CSA Professional Women’s Domestic League, promising more enthralling encounters as the battle for inaugural professional title intensifies.
